At Gran Canaria Clean-Up, we believe that the wellbeing of young people and the health of our planet are deeply connected. Our mission is to create a cleaner, greener Gran Canaria while empowering young adults to build mental and climate resilience. We do this by combining environmental action with personal growth, offering hands-on experiences that inspire confidence, connection, and a brighter future.
Gran Canaria Clean-Up was founded just last year as part of The Route 66 Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of young adults and restoring balance between humanity and nature.
Our mission is to create opportunities for young people to reconnect with themselves and the environment. By actively participating in clean-ups, ecological building projects, and community initiatives, they develop valuable skills, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Through these experiences, we are nurturing the next generation of eco-conscious changemakers, building a brighter and more sustainable future for Gran Canaria and beyond.
Our team is made up entirely of dedicated volunteers – people from all walks of life who share a passion for creating positive change. Our core group includes environmentalists, educators, community leaders, and young people eager to make a difference. Together, we coordinate weekly clean-ups, organize workshops, and build partnerships that empower others to take action.
We proudly work alongside organizations such as Oceans4Life, Travel Without Plastic, and ZieMens, combining our strengths to amplify our impact. These collaborations help us create more comprehensive programs that not only focus on environmental restoration but also support young people in developing resilience, purpose, and leadership skills.
We envision Gran Canaria as a place where nature and people thrive together. By offering programs that address both environmental and personal growth, we aim to inspire young people to embrace sustainability and build a future full of hope and possibilities.
Martina is the driving force behind The Route 66 Foundation and Gran Canaria Clean-Up. With a deep commitment to empowering young adults and protecting the planet, she combines vision and action to create transformative programs that reconnect people with nature and themselves.
Jolande brings warmth and clarity to our initiatives, building bridges between local communities, international partners, and our young participants. She ensures that every voice is heard and that our message reaches hearts and minds.
Antoon is our hands-on leader, coordinating clean-up efforts, workshops, and day-to-day logistics. His practical mindset and dedication ensure that our projects run smoothly, making a tangible impact on the ground.
